Gaia and Philosophy

On 1-3 December, 2022, the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Donostia–San Sebastián will host an international symposium on Gaia and Philosophy. This event is organized by the Outonomy project of the IAS-Research Center for Life, Mind, and Society.

Speaking will be Bruce Clarke, Sébastien Dutreuil, Audronė Žukauskaitė, Sergio Rubin, and Gillian Barker. There will be a book launch for Writing Gaia: The Scientific Correspondence of James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis, edited by Bruce Clarke and Sébastien Dutreuil, published by Cambridge University Press (2022), an evening lecture at the Koldo Mitxelena cultural centre, and a guided field trip to the Basque Coast UNESCO Global Geopark.

Bruce ClarkeBruce Clarke
Bruce Clarke is Paul Whitfield Horn Distinguished Professor of Literature and Science in the Department of English at Texas Tech University, and the 2019 Blumberg/NASA Chair in Astrobiology at the Library of Congress. His research focuses on systems theory, narrative theory, and ecology. Clarke co-edits the book series Meaning Systems, published by Fordham University Press.
